If you thought IT was boring - think again! The new innovation centre at our Windermere Campus is testament to the fact that IT is fun, exciting and creative.
After the recent move of our business, law and IT faculties from Bongard Centre in Tauranga to Windermere Campus, we used the opportunity to create a new space where IT and computing students can work, learn, play and collaborate with each other.
Paul Morris, Group Manager of Information Technology said the innovation centre will become the focal point of the IT and computing courses at Toi Ohomai and is part of a the faculty’s efforts to foster innovation and creativity in the industry, especially in the gaming space.
"As an institute of technology, we want to give our students the platform to experiment with and learn about the latest technologies and innovations in the industry – and the best way they can do that is by actually interacting with it and working with it as part of their courses,” says Paul.
"We’ve already set up the foundations for what will be a dynamic environment that brings our students together by encouraging collaboration and making it a fun experience as well.”
The space is already equipped with state-of-the-art programming computers and classroom facilities, will include a dedicated virtual reality space and will be used to run gaming events as part of the Institute’s new games development and design courses.
