Evaluating the Impact of Programme Delivery in Ōpōtiki

OpotikiBay of Plenty Polytechnic has been delivering programmes in the Eastern Bay of Plenty for many years, in partnership with a number of community and iwi organisations.

Courses have been offered in a diverse range of topics including Maritime and Fishing Technology, Aquaculture, Horticulture, Beauty and Preparation for Law Enforcement.

In 2015, Heather Hamerton and Sharlene Henare evaluated the impact of the programmes being delivered in Ōpōtiki on students, whānau and community.

Completion rates were consistently high across all programmes taught in Ōpōtiki in 2015, and students reported that their studies were preparing them well for employment or further study, and also improved their self-confidence and motivation.

Community stakeholders reported that they were seeing many positive changes in the students, many of whom were “second chance” learners.
