Course Overview
Land surveyors provide accurate spatial data to engineering, building and surveying projects by measuring and mapping the size and shape of the land. Career options can include but not limited to a surveyor, tunnelling and mining surveyor, CAD operator, survey project manager or an engineering surveyor.
This surveying qualification is open to those already working in the surveying profession looking to upskill or quantify their existing skills.
Our flexible delivery style allows you to work and study at the same time and caters for remote learners too.

2 years full-time, including holidays (if applicable) If you already work in the industry you’ll have the option to provide evidence of tasks carried out at work instead of attending on campus block courses (evidence and employer sign off required). Each week, you’ll attend a 2 hour online tutorial per course and 1-3 day block courses as required. All students must attend scheduled tutorials and you’ll also have access to additional course materials online and study these in your own time. Your study will typically take 2-5 years to complete. Course Entry Information
Entry criteria
NCEA Level 2 with the following requirements:
- 48 NCEA Level 2 credits in four subjects, including a minimum of 12 credits in mathematics (preferably in algebra, geometry and trigonometry) or the equivalent
If you wish to undertake the Flexi-Learn pathway you must be currently employed in the land surveying industry at the time of enrolment.
Standard Entry Criteria
Admission, entry, selection, and enrolment into programmes will be in accordance with the Academic Regulations and/or, where approved, specific programme regulations.
Other Considerations
Domestic applicants aged 20 years or above who do not meet the academic entry requirements of this course, but whose skills, education or work experience indicate that they have a reasonable chance of success, may be eligible for special admission.
English language requirements
IELTS Academic score of 6 with no band score lower than 5.5 or completed New Zealand Certificate in English Language Level 4 with the Academic Endorsement or meets a relevant English Proficiency Outcome as outlined by NZQA.
