Develop and learn new computing skills with our free Certificate in Computing.

Whether you want to upskill for work or future study, or just want to learn more about our digital world, this course will build a strong foundation to help develop your computing skills.

Learn about multiple free online software programs, including Google’s office suite, storage and publishing tools. Develop the skills to troubleshoot common computing problems, connect and collaborate with people online and more.

Enjoy the benefit of smaller class sizes and passionate tutors who can give you more hands-on support. They’ll work to help you succeed and to ensure you acquire relevant skills for your future.

Upon successfully completing the requirements you'll receive the award of:

20 weeks full-time, including holidays (if applicable)

Study face-to-face on campus at set times (plus online learning). The first three weeks are in-class tutorials on campus, then you'll attend one in-class tutorial on campus every three weeks. In addition to in-class on campus tutorials, you'll be studying online.

Digital Citizen Group

Are you a life-long learner looking for new challenge? If you want to improve your basic computing skills then this course is for you.

During this course you'll learn basic troubleshooting for your phones and devices. We'll show you how to use Google Drive and Docs to create, store and share documents. You'll learn how to build a simple website using Google Sites.

This course is an opportunity to meet with others, to learn and share together. You will work with a team of people on a simple digital project that will provide a service to your community. You'll participate in discussions about new digital culture and personal cyber safety.

Student Loans and Allowances

This course meets the requirements for student allowance and student loan applications through StudyLink.

  • A student loan helps to pay for your course fees (the compulsory fees), study materials e.g. books, equipment, and living costs. You'll have to pay this money back.
  • A student allowance is a weekly payment that can help with your living expenses while you're studying. You don't have to pay the money back.

Standard Entry Criteria

Admission, entry, selection, and enrolment into programmes will be in accordance with the Academic Regulations and/or, where approved, specific programme regulations.

For courses at levels 1-3, domestic and international students will be required to:

Provide evidence of ability to complete academic requirements.

Other Considerations

To complete the online components of the course, you'll need access to a computer and the internet.

English language requirements

Level 3 certificate IELTS General or Academic score of 5 with no band score lower than 5 or completed New Zealand Certificate in English Language Level 3 with an endorsement of either General, Workplace or Academic, or meets a relevant English Proficiency Outcome as outlined in Rule 18 and Appendix 2 of the NZQA Programme and Accreditation Rules 2013.
