Nursing & Education; Education & Nursing - Dr Judith Honeyfield

Dr Judith Honeyfield is the Academic Leader for Te Puna Whai Ora Department of Nursing at Toi Ohomai’s, and a Principal Academic Staff Member. She has taught multiple papers across all year groups in the Bachelor of Nursing, including supervision of students in clinical placements, and has a wide range of personal and professional networks in the healthcare sector.

Judi has researched and published widely in a range of topics related to healthcare education, and particularly in aged care. A recent (2024-25) project has been an Ako Aotearoa-funded inquiry into the most effective practices in delivering educational experiences which prepare student nurses for culturally-centred work with older persons – focussing particularly on Māori and Chinese New Zealanders.

Judi is also interested in adult learning and teaching pedagogy: her doctoral thesis with Te Whare Wananga o Awanuiārangi was titled “Developing New Tertiary Teachers: Discovering Agency” and created a new model for professional development in higher education. She has authored, and co-authored multiple teaching resources, such as the Ako Aotearoa Signposts, Goalposts and ePosts resources.

Judi has served as a member of the Toi Ohomai Research and Human Ethics Committee in the past and is a keen supporter of team projects and academic writing, especially with novice researchers and new members of her teaching team.
