Douglas Mitchell
Douglas Mitchell secured a job in his chosen field, which he says was only possible thanks to support from Toi Ohomai Careers Facilitators. Doug was in his second-year studying Architecture Technology when he began his job hunt.
"As studies came to an end, I was on the hunt for a job, so I made an appointment with a Careers and Employability Facilitator (Windermere Campus) to get help with my CV and Cover Letter."
During the appointment, Doug found out about the company - Interior Fitting Ltd, as there was a job listing advertised on the Careers and Employability website.
"The facilitator helped me to tailor my CV and Cover letter for the role. I submitted my application and shortly after was invited for an interview.
"I got the job I wanted. I am so thankful to the team for helping me structure my CV and Cover letter. The support they offer is really amazing and professional."
Doug also accessed a note-taker throughout the second semester, which he says made a difference in his understanding of an assignment and formatting a report.
"I feel prepared and ready to step into the field I have been studying for.
"I have struggled a lot with reading and writing and I have the learning support team and tutors to thank for that. If you ever think you can't do it, you have all the support and resources. The tutors are incredible and all they want is to get over that finish line.
"One last thing I want to add is a quote that helped me get back on the right track: 'You may encounter many defeats but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it' by Maya Angelou."
"I wish every student the very best for their future. Thank you Toi Ohomai for making this dream happen."
