Thursday, 08 Nov 2018

Works from multiple award-winning students will be on show at Toi Ohomai Bachelor of Creative Industries’ (BCI) final exhibition, titled 36 Degrees, on Friday, 16 November 2018.

The exhibition will feature works from graduating students in the fields of visual arts and graphic design, concluding with a fashion show. Among the featured work will be collections from Isaac Crowe, who won the Incubator Emerging Artist Award at this year’s Miles Art Awards and Seda Demirsoy, who won the Collections Award at the Hokonui Fashion Design Awards for 2018.

“Over the last 18 months this cohort of students has researched their concepts and tested their ideas to create strong, resolved work that will capture and inspire their audiences. It is a privilege to be privy to the latest in creative thinking and endeavour,” says Mary Stewart, Group Leader Media Arts at Toi Ohomai.

The fashion show will also be an event not to be missed, says Mary. This year’s show will include collections from talented Year 3 students who were selected to participate in noteworthy local fashion events, including the Hokonui Fashion Design Awards, MiroModa Fashion Design competition and the recent Art for Kids fundraiser fashion show at the Tauranga Art Gallery

The 36 Degrees art and design exhibition is free to the public and will open at 6pm on Friday, 16 November at the Toi Ohomai Windermere Drive Campus in the Te Ara o Mauao building (M block).

The exhibition will be followed by the fashion event at 7.30pm. Tickets for the fashion show cost $25 per person and can be purchased at the Information Centre on campus.

The exhibition is truly the culmination of years of dedication and hard work, as well as showcasing the amazing talent of Toi Ohomai BCI students.

The exhibition will also be open to the public for viewing on Saturday, 17 November from 11am to 2pm.
