Post-mortem Length Change in Fish

FishCaroline Schweder-Goad

The aim of this project was to determine how much fish length change occurs post-capture in a commercial fishery.

Fish were measured immediately after being caught, after initial chilling, and before transport to market.

The majority of fish (85%) shrank after being chilled. For most fish the shrinkage was less than 3%; shrinkage varied slightly for different species.
