Course Overview
Electrical appliance servicepersons are in hot demand in New Zealand.
Over the course of 13 weeks you’ll learn how to maintain and test electrical appliances that are supplied by flexible cord or which are fixed-wired up to 230 volts, such as toasters, photocopiers and gaming machines. This endorsement allows you to disconnect and reconnect fixed-wired appliances.
This course is designed for people already working in the electrical industry.
Upon successfully completing the requirements you'll receive:
- The Electrical Workers Registration Board (EWRB) Electrical Appliance Serviceperson Endorsed (EASQ) practical assessment

Career opportunities
Graduates of this course must also work under supervision of a Registered person, installing and repairing a wide range of appliances for a minimum of 18 months, and complete a written examination before they can apply for full registration with the Electrical Workers Registration Board (EWRB).
Topics you'll cover
In-class delivery will be over 13 weeks, with weekly three-hour night classes.
The course is comprised of:
- Electrical Safety
- Electrical Appliance Serviceperson Endorsed (EASQ) practical assessment as per the EWRB teaching guidelines and theory examination preparation
- Single phase appliance testing
You'll also be required to complete a theory examination through EWRB ASPEQ. This examination will be paid for separately from this course.

Course Entry Information
Entry criteria
- There are no minimum academic requirements
- You must already be working in the electrical industry
Standard Entry Criteria
Admission, entry, selection, and enrolment into programmes will be in accordance with the Academic Regulations and/or, where approved, specific programme regulations.
English language requirements
Level 3 certificate IELTS General or Academic score of 5 with no band score lower than 5 or completed New Zealand Certificate in English Language Level 3 with an endorsement of either General, Workplace or Academic, or meets a relevant English Proficiency Outcome as outlined by NZQA.
