Make your mark as a qualified technician in the booming nail technology industry and learn all the tips to make your clients’ nails shine.

Our students learn by doing, so you’ll get plenty of opportunities to develop and practice your new nail enhancement techniques and client consultation skills. You’ll learn how to prepare the nails, apply tips and gel, nail art and design, and how to perform hand and arm massages.

You'll also learn everything you need to know about products, the tools of the trade, health and safety, and nail conditions.

Upon successfully completing the requirements you'll receive the award of:

Career opportunities

This training scheme will provide an opportunity for those interested in a career in the beauty industry to gain some initial nail technology skills without the need to commit to a full time course. It will also enable those currently working in the industry to gain some additional knowledge and skills and will enable businesses to up skill their current staff.

Topics you'll cover

  • Health and safety for the manicurists / nail technologist 
  • Manicure techniques and skills to preform to a professional standard
  • Theoretical knowledge of products, including manufacturers’ instructions, chemistry information, and ingredients 
  • Anatomy and physiology (structure and functions of nails) for manicurists
  • Personal presentation – personal grooming, standards for the workplace

Entry criteria

  • Open entry.

Standard Entry Criteria

Admission, entry, selection, and enrolment into programmes will be in accordance with the Academic Regulations and/or, where approved, specific programme regulations.

English language requirements

Level 3 certificate IELTS General or Academic score of 5 with no band score lower than 5 or completed New Zealand Certificate in English Language Level 3 with an endorsement of either General, Workplace or Academic, or meets a relevant English Proficiency Outcome as outlined by NZQA.
