What Factors Motivate Tertiary Students to Achieve 100% Course Attendance?
This topic was the subject of Maraea Van Gent’s Masters thesis completed at Massey University in 2014.
She explored students’ narratives to identify factors that contributed to their decision to fully attend their chosen tertiary course and provide some understanding of their underlying motivations.
The study showcased some highly motivated and inspirational students who accomplished an amazing academic achievement, against all the odds.
New interventions based on Maraea’s research could potentially improve academic outcomes for students, teaching staff and tertiary institutions and benefit families, communities and New Zealand’s social and economic future.
