Mentoring Māori Tertiary Students

Mel Katu completed her Masters thesis at AUT University in 2015.  Her thesis research investigated how mentoring can prepare Māori tertiary students for employment.

Students were paired with local business people who were currently working in the business sector where the student will soon be employed once graduated.

The mentoring relationships supported the Māori tertiary students to prepare for employment and to explore the potential contributions they could make to the business sector.

This mentoring research also encourage the Māori tertiary students to commit to their study and career goals, and provided them with real world insights into the often demanding, individualistic and competitive business environment.
