Embedding Environmental Sustainability into Management Studies at Toi Ohomai
Earlier research was conducted in 2017 by self-evaluating the response to the need of embedding sustainability in tertiary education.
This included a brief review of Toi Ohomai course descriptors to ascertain the degree to which sustainability is referred to, and a brief literature review of what other tertiary institutes are doing worldwide. This work led the researcher to four key sustainability competencies which have been identified by other researchers.
In the second study, we assessed the value of these competencies by introducing two new inquiry-based learning styled projects into two business management papers. We completed a pre and post survey of both groups of students, to ascertain any change in students' awareness of environmental issues as a result of exposing them to these concepts of sustainability within a business management context.
