BIOL6016 Freshwater Ecology and Monitoring (Level 6) (15 credits)

River

In this paper you’ll gain practical and theoretical knowledge relating to freshwater ecosystems. This will enable you to sample and analyse a variety of freshwater environments.

You’ll learn about the biology and ecology of our freshwater environments and survey selected lakes and streams using indicator species to assess the conditions.

You’ll also examine ways we can protect and improve the freshwater environment.

Contents may include:

•    Origin, development and physical properties of lakes and rivers.
•    Biology and ecology of selected freshwater flora and fauna.
