About this Scholarship

Supporting Māori, Pacific and learners with a disability and/or learning challenge with achieving their higher vocational education aspirations.

Toi Ohomai recognises that graduates of higher-level tertiary education programmes play an important role in supporting the economic and social wellbeing and prosperity of their communities and whānau.

The purpose of these scholarships is to encourage the retention of Māori, Pacific, and learners with disabilities and/or learning challenges into higher levels of tertiary study at Toi Ohomai.

Learners completing higher-level qualifications not only contributes valuable skills and knowledge to our region and Aotearoa New Zealand, but also provide important role models for educational success to future students and their whānau.

Eligibility and Criteria

  • be a New Zealand citizen or New Zealand permanent resident; 
  • have completed/graduated from a Toi Ohomai course within the last two years and the course had a study duration of a minimum of six months;
  • accepted into a higher-level course at Toi Ohomai (for example, if you completed a Level 3 course you must be accepted in a Level 4 or above course)
Note: if you also identify as Māori and/or Pasifika, you may also apply for the Toi Ohomai Whakapumau Pae Tawhiti Scholarship (Ākonga Māori/Māori Learners) and/or the Toi Ohomai Whakapumau Pae Tawhiti Scholarship (Ākonga Pasifika/Pacific Learners). However, you will only be awarded one scholarship.

You must also provide the following documentation with your application:

  1. a cover letter outlining (1) how completing this course will support your future goals (2) your study and career/employment plan; (3) financial hardship that may impact your study, and;
  2. a signed supporting letter from an academic staff member (teaching or non-teaching) doctor or medical specialist to support your application.
