Looking to advance your skills in te reo Māori?
If you have a desire to contribute positively to the development of te reo kia tika, kia rere, kia Māori, or have a personal and/or professional interest in te reo Māori, then this course is for you.
Te Pokaitahi Reo (Te Kaupae 4) focuses on applying your knowledge through reading, writing and speaking.
You'll develop the skills and knowledge to communicate independently in various situations with fluency and increasing flexibility in everyday whānau, marae, social, community, workplace and academic contexts, and in broader aspects of te ao Māori.
Upon successfully completing the requirements you'll receive the award of:

Career opportunities
Graduates of this course will have an advanced intermediate level understanding and awareness of te reo that can be utilised to:
- Participate in the maintenance and development of te reo amongst whānau, hapū, iwi, and community
- Support and complement current skills and knowledge in their area of employment
- Be able to contribute to whānau, hapū, iwi, and hapori Māori by preparing the whare and/or marae for hui
- Being a dedicated and committed speakers of advanced-intermediate level te reo in homes within whānau and being a role-model in the use of te reo amongst whānau and hapū.

- Te Kukunetanga - Te Kōtui me te Arotake Tohenga (Synthesising and Evaluating Arguments)

This course meets the requirements for student allowance and student loan applications through StudyLink.

Course Entry Information
Entry criteria
- NCEA Level 2 with passes in Te Reo Māori, OR
- Te Reo Rangatira at NCEA Level 2, OR
- Successful achievement of Te Pōkaitahi Reo (Reo Rua) (Te Kaupae 3) or evidence of successful achievement of an intermediate level Reo course or equivalent Reo skills and knowledge.
If you do not meet the academic requirements you may be given special admission if Toi Ohomai staff are satisfied you are capable of successfully completing the requirements.
Special admission may also apply for applicants over 20 years.
Standard Entry Criteria
Admission, entry, selection, and enrolment into programmes will be in accordance with the Academic Regulations and/or, where approved, specific programme regulations.
English language requirements
Level 4 certificate IELTS General or Academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5 or completed New Zealand Certificate in English Language Level 3 with an endorsement of either General, Workplace or Academic, or meets a relevant English Proficiency Outcome as outlined by NZQA.
