Course Overview
Employers are always looking for skilled, adaptable staff who can continuously improve and innovate.
This course gives you the skills and knowledge you need to work as a manager or leader an operational level.
You'll start with the essential fundamentals of business. This includes basic accounting principles, interpreting financial performance and economic theory. You'll also cover fundamentals of commercial law, organisational management and communication and marketing.
This strand then focuses on topics that will improve your knowledge and skill in leadership and management.
This diploma is also the first year of the Toi Ohomai Bachelor of Applied Management (Business Management) or the University of Waikato Bachelor of Business or Bachelor of Business Management (Hons). Once you have completed the Diploma in Business, you can pathway straight into the second year of any of these degrees.
Upon successfully completing the requirements you'll receive the award of:

This course meets the requirements for student allowance and student loan applications through StudyLink.
- A student loan helps to pay for your course fees (the compulsory fees), study materials e.g. books, equipment, and living costs. You'll have to pay this money back.
- A student allowance is a weekly payment that can help with your living expenses while you're studying. You don't have to pay the money back.

Course Entry Information
Entry criteria
Applicants must be at least 16 years of age on the date the course starts.
Domestic applicants under the age of 20 will need:
- NCEA Level 2 or equivalent, OR
- Successful completion of an approved qualification at Level 3 or above with a relevant pathway
If you do not meet the academic requirements you may be given special admission if Toi Ohomai staff are satisfied you are capable of successfully completing the requirements.
Special admission may also apply for applicants over 20 years.
Standard Entry Criteria
Admission, entry, selection, and enrolment into programmes will be in accordance with the Academic Regulations and/or, where approved, specific programme regulations.
English language requirements
An IELTS score of 5.5 (academic) with no individual band lower than 5.0 from one test taken in the preceding two years, or an equivalent described in NZQA Rules.
