BIOL6012 Marine Ecology and Monitoring (Level 6) (15 credits)

This exciting course extends your identification skills and knowledge of marine flora and fauna of New Zealand.

It includes an extended field trip at Tuhua (Mayor) Island where you'll take part in long term monitoring of the marine reserve. 

This is complimented through supported assessments, reviewing the ecology of the North-East bioregion of New Zealand and the survey techniques used to study them. 

It will provide you with an understanding of how species interact and the issues and challenges around their protection.

Contents may include:

  • Critically examine and explain ecosystems found in the North-East bioregion of New Zealand and how they're linked
  • Discuss and carry out a biological baseline survey of an estuarine, rocky shore, or sub-tidal ecosystem
