New Zealand Certificate in Education Support (L4)

• Two character references are required. These should be from persons in positions of trust or responsibility such as an employer, teacher, pastor, kaumātua or kuia. References from family, friends or work colleagues will not be accepted;
• All applicants will be required to provide a signed consent form which allows Toi Ohomai to check the candidate’s record of convictions on entry, during and prior to completing the programme;
• Applicants will be accepted only after a satisfactory police check is received. ALL applicants with ANY convictions will be required to attend an interview with the Group Manager, Programme Manager or delegated staff member from the Education teaching team and may be declined entry depending on the severity, recency, age at offending and pattern of offending.
• In order to be eligible to enrol in this programme, you must prove that you will have continuous access to paid or voluntary work in an educational setting, under the supervision of a registered teacher. This will be your practicum, which is an important part of this programme. An educational setting is anywhere that learning is happening with registered teachers and students. This could be in an ECE centre, primary or secondary school, youth facility or other. This registered teacher will be your 'mentor teacher' and you will spend a minimum of 3 hours per week with them at your chosen educational setting. Some of your assessment tasks will involve reflections on discussions with your mentor teacher about key education support issues. For each topic/paper you’ll complete 18 hours of practicum (approx. 3 hours per week over 6 weeks)

COVID-19 Vaccination Information

You don’t need to supply evidence of your COVID-19 vaccination status to apply for this programme. However, some placement providers may require evidence from you that you are fully vaccinated before allowing you to complete a placement at their organisation. Placements are an integral part of this programme and you’ll need to complete these to be able to successfully achieve your qualification.
