Toi Ohomai Scholarships Make Education Accessible To All

Providing equal educational opportunities to students of all abilities and backgrounds is one of the major challenges for educational institutions, and for Toi Ohomai, also one of the most important responsibilities.

As many prospective students navigate financial aid applications, Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology (Toi Ohomai) aims to invest in future generations of students with an extensive list of scholarships.

This list includes new scholarships for single parents and women, which highlights how Toi Ohomai delivers on its promise under the United Nations Women’s Empowerment Principles (UNWEP) to promote education, training and professional development for women.

High-performing athletes and academics, prospective tradesmen –and women, environmental advocates and adult learners also stand to benefit from Toi Ohomai 2019 scholarship offering, which includes up to 40 local secondary school scholarships across the rohe.

With recent research showing that 50% of university scholarships go to the wealthiest students, it’s reassuring to know that the Toi Ohomai scholarship offering intentionally takes a community and whānau development approach.

“At Toi Ohomai, we believe in the power of higher education to change lives and continuously improve ourselves and our communities. Our scholarships ease the burden on whānau and uphold our promise of making higher education more accessible to our students,” says Ana.  

“We consider financial wellbeing as one of the key factors when awarding our scholarships. For low-income students, a little bit of help goes a long way to widen participation and provide additional support,” says Ana.

“Our entire offering, from courses to our scholarships, is structured with the goal of improving education and career prospects for New Zealanders, in particular for those who are unable to access higher education because of financial hardship.”
