Kaituna River Rediversion: Social and Recreational Use Patterns
In 2014, Heather completed a piece of work for Bay of Plenty Regional Council.
The aim of this research was to learn about how people use the lower reaches of the Kaituna River, the Ōngātoro/Maketu estuary and Maketu beach areas for social and recreational purposes in order to assess the impacts on users of the Bay of Plenty Regional Council’s proposed resource consent to redivert a larger proportion the flow of the Kaituna River back into Ōngātoro/Maketu Estuary.
Findings from this research contributed to the Assessment of Environmental Effects as part of the resource consent. Further information about the Kaituna River Rediversion is available on the BOPRC website.
