Factors Affecting Online Success and Completion of Māori and Pasifika Learners in the GDNZIA
The Graduate Diploma in New Zealand Immigration Advice (GDNZIA) is an online, level 7 programme. There is a lower successful completion rate for Māori/Pasifika students in the GDNZIA , and improving outcomes for these students is a faculty and institutional target.
This research sought to look at factors that affect Māori/Pasifika students’ studies in this programme and identify strategies which might assist to ameliorate these issues for the sake of future Māori/Pasifika students.
Ten students each from the two sub-sets of this demographic group were interviewed – those who successfully completed the qualification, and those who either withdrew, or did not pass.
This project serves as a blueprint for similar research into Māori/Pasifika learning outcomes in other online programmes within the legal studies suite, and perhaps across other faculties
