Architecture was Shelley Alderson-Wallace’s first choice when she finished school, but she soon lost interest in the theoretical university degree she signed up for and ended up with a business and marketing degree instead. But she never forgot her first love and went on to enrol in Toi Ohomai’s New Zealand Diploma in Architectural Technology (Level 6).
Shelley enjoyed the diploma’s practical focus and lined up her first architectural job before the course ended. She now spends her time designing residential concept drawings and models.
“This course teaches you how to hit the ground running, which is what employers want - for example you learn the software you need to make you employable. It’s very easy to find work because there’s such a market for those skills. I’m passionate about my job - I get to do a variety of things! You need to be creative and you get to solve problems.”
