Award-winning Graduate Spreads His Wings After 28 Years in the Air Force
The prospect of changing careers in your 40s or 50s can be daunting.
For Toi Ohomai graduate Grant Goodman, it was a challenge he was happy to overcome and he did so with absolute confidence when he enrolled for a New Zealand Certificate in Construction and Trade Skills (Level 3) - Carpentry Strand in 2018.
Grant is a great example of how life-altering it can be to change careers and that success comes to those who are dedicated and willing to work hard.
"I spent 28 years in the Royal New Zealand Air Force before I decided it was time for me to change direction,” says Grant.
The course proved the perfect place for Grant to start his new career journey and he took on the challenge with such passion that he even landed an apprenticeship with a local builder after his graduation.
Grant also went on to win the Top Student award at Toi Ohomai’s December graduation as a testament to his hard work and dedication throughout the year.
"If you're driven, if you're pointing yourself in the right direction, things will work out," says Grant.
