Student Destined to Boost Other Businesses
Collecting the top accounting prize in his final year at Rotorua Boys’ High School reinforced Reuben Barton’s decision to pursue a career based on his favourite subject.
He enrolled in the New Zealand Diploma in Business (Level 5), specialising in accounting, and was selected as one of 20 Toi Ohomai Secondary School Achiever Award winners.
Reuben used the scholarship money to buy a MacBook laptop to assist with his studies.
“Everything this year has been online based learning through Moodle, and my MacBook has allowed me to study and get work in on time no matter where I am.”
He’s enjoying the diploma and intends to pathway into the second year of the Toi Ohomai Bachelor of Applied Management next year.
“My long-term goal is to become a chartered accountant. I’d like to be able to use my business management and accounting skills to help businesses thrive - to achieve their goals of business growth and profitability.”
When he’s not busy balancing the books, you’ll find Reuben working part-time at his local supermarket or breaking a sweat training in Mixed Martial Arts at the gym.
