Cat-Walk Glitz and Glamour at Art for Kids Fundraiser
Friday, 07 Sep 2018
It will be all glitz and glamour on Saturday night when three Bachelor of Creative Industries (BCI) students and three former students take to the runway at Tauranga Art Gallery’s Art for Kids Fundraiser.
Students Melody Basham, Seda Demirsoy and Lucy Zhao – all in their final year of the BCI – and graduates Norah Maclachlan, Lyndon Sheehan and Nancy Zhang will stand alongside 16 top NZ fashion designers, including Blak, Chaos & Harmony, Nyne, Repertoire and RPM, who will showcase their Spring/Summer ranges.
The exclusive evening of fashion and art is a fundraiser for the ArtBus – a free service the Gallery provides to 11,000+ local school children each year, so they can travel to the CBD to take part in art education programmes.
Auctions of luxury fashion, art and lifestyle items, as well as raffles, live entertainment and a ‘gin bar’ experience will follow the fashion show, while guests enjoy champagne and canapés.
“This is going to be one of those events that everyone will be talking about afterwards and wish they were there! It’s a first for Tauranga. The best of fashion, champagne, art and glitter,” says Sonya Korohina, Tauranga Art Gallery business development and relationships manager.
Donna Dinsdale, BCI Fashion Design Programme Lead, says the work presented highlights the diversity and individuality of current students and graduates.
“As emerging fashion designers who have studied on the Bachelor of Creative Industries, this event is a fantastic opportunity to present a range of unique collections, not only to industry but to the wider community.”
The six designers who are showcasing their work have drawn inspiration from personal cultural paradigms and have utilised a variety of strong technical skills to design collections that have all been winners or finalists of national competitions, Donna said.
BCI graduates are trained in a diverse range of skills required by the creative workplace. The fashion design major is renowned for producing some of the best fashion students in the country; winning at major New Zealand fashion awards year after year.
The Art for Kids Fundraising event takes place on Saturday 8 September at the Tauranga Art Gallery. Limited tickets are available at www.artgallery.org.nz/art-for-kids.
