Thursday, 05 Sep 2019
Applications have officially opened for the 2020 Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology scholarship programme. More than 80 scholarships will be on offer to provide prospective students with financial assistance for courses across a range of disciplines including high performance sport, academic achievement, financial hardship, and community involvement.
Toi Ohomai aims to contribute to a diverse workforce through its annual scholarship programmes, which provides opportunities for those experiencing a range of financial barriers when trying to access tertiary level education.
Toi Ohomai Executive Director of Strategic Partnerships and Māori Success, Ana Morrison, says the organisation considers equal educational opportunities as one of the major challenges and top priorities for all tertiary institutes in the country.
"We’re keen to make our scholarships available to a diverse range of students from different economic, cultural and educational backgrounds, and it’s been amazing to see the transformational benefits this can have for them, their tamariki and wider whānau,” she said.
“Our scholarship programmes are intentionally created to support and enable our communities and whānau, particularly those individuals who may feel unable to access higher education because of financial hardship.”
Toi Ohomai also offers trade academy scholarships, which have intakes throughout the year.
“We truly believe in the power of higher education to change lives, by continuously improving ourselves and our communities. Our scholarships ease the burden on whānau and uphold our promise of making higher education more accessible to all New Zealanders,” says Ana.
