Camille Goujon

Wednesday, 30 Apr 2025

Toi Ohomai is proud to host an international exhibition of moving images and film at Te Ara o Mauao Gallery, Windermere Campus, showcasing the works of French artist Camille Goujon.

Titled Nothing is Lost, Nothing is Created, Everything is Transformed, the exhibition runs until Friday 16 May, and features five short films that explore a variety of animation techniques and documentary footage.

Based in Paris, Camille Goujon’s artistic practice spans drawing, sculpture, performance, and moving images. She has held residencies in Japan, Turkey, and France, and was awarded a prestigious scholarship to work as an artist in residence at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, Los Angeles. Camille’s works often explore industrial themes, such as hydro-electric dams, nuclear power plants, oil fields and industrial landscapes, resulting in them being referenced in discussions on art and ecology.

The opportunity to host this high-profile international exhibition at our Windermere campus gallery stemmed from Camille's connection with Toi Ohomai Academic Staff Member – Visual Arts, Kyle Sattler. The two met over a decade ago on Vimeo, an online platform where artists share moving imagery and video work. In 2012, Camille and Kyle began commenting on each other’s works, and the similarities in some of their artistic approaches. They have remained in touch over the years, and Kyle invited Camille to showcase her work for the first time in New Zealand, here at Toi Ohomai.

Kyle says it’s an honour to exhibit Nothing is Lost, Nothing is Created, Everything is Transformed at Te Ara o Mauao Gallery given several of Camille’s works have gained recognition internationally at a range of film and moving image festivals.

“We carefully selected five of Camille’s short films to display. Her multi-language works offer viewers a unique cultural perspective from an international source that we might not usually come into contact with, and detail a range of creative techniques employed by Camille, whose practice extends well behind the domain of moving image and film, ” Kyle says.

The films featured in the exhibition include: Au fil des Femmes (Along the Line of Women), 2024; Travaux public (Public Works), 2014; Ca Tourne (On Set), 2020; Fleur Animees (Animated Flowers), 2024; and My Name is Dusty (2004-2008).

Nothing is Lost, Nothing is Created, Everything is Transformed is open to the public weekdays from 9am to 5pm until Friday, 16 May 2025. The exhibition is located at Te Ara o Mauao Gallery, M Block, Toi Ohomai Windermere Campus, 70 Windermere Drive, Tauranga.
